Pine Cove Cabin Rentals

Located on Highway 243, Pine Cove cabin rentals sit above Idyllwild village. It’s a few minutes farther up the grade, noticeably colder at night, and quieter than the stretch of town with the restaurants. Guests who book here usually choose the quiet location on purpose. The collection at Experience Idyllwild is five cabins across Idyllwild-Pine Cove, all owned by the same family rather than run under a management contract.

What the Drive Up from Banning Looks Like

If you’re driving out of Banning, Highway 243 climbs through the San Jacinto Mountains before it reaches the village and then, after that, Pine Cove. Keep in mind it is a mountain road: two lanes, switchbacks, and a grade that will make a loaded car work.

Step-by-step directions if driving in from the north:

  • Exit Interstate 10 at Banning and pick up Highway 243 south
  • Follow 243 as it climbs — the turnouts are worth using if traffic stacks behind you
  • Continue through Pine Cove; the village center is a few minutes further on
  • From Hemet or the desert side, Highway 74 — the Pines to Palms Highway — connects to 243 at Mountain Center instead

Winter and What To Know Before Traveling

Winter storms here will close roads, and chain controls can go up without notice. We do not publish chain requirements as fact because they change by the hour. Be sure to check the current road conditions page the morning you leave, not the week before. If the forecast looks unsettled and you are unsure whether to come, call or text and ask. We answer between 7 AM and 10 PM PST.

Hitting the Trails and Exploring the Village

Pine Cove’s location puts you close to the quieter end of the trail network. Alvin Meadows and Lake Fulmor are close; Suicide Rock and the Ernie Maxwell Scenic Trail pull from the village side. You can view the full list on our hiking and mountain biking page.

The village is a short drive down the mountain, where you’ll find galleries, studios, and a handful of restaurants for dinner. Most guests spend the morning exploring a trail and the afternoon in town without feeling stressed or overloaded.

Booking a Cabin Near Pine Cove

Check-in time is at 4 PM, and check-out time is at 11 AM. Early check-in may be allowed by request, but it depends on the day. Availability for booking is listed on each cabin page, or you can send an inquiry to see what is available. You’ll hear back from Sidney or Erin, and they’ll point you to the right one. If the cold nights up here are the draw, mention that; it changes which cabin we suggest.
